After the 12 miles to reach Bear's Den from my previous shelter, I'm taking a day off at the hostel here. It's a quaint stone building full of friendly people doing a good thing in providing a respite for weary thru hikers.
It doesn't hurt that it's raining much if today either. The mist rolls in through the forest here in a way that's much deeper than anywhere. The phrase "thicker than pea soup" seems more apt than ever.
It gives the world an eerie, soft abyssal nature, like the world doesn't render beyond the depths of your vision.
