April Twelth
At the end of the first day I reached the 4 mile tent site south of Harper's Ferry.
I really began to feel what I could only describe as how happy I was to be here.
I also felt how isolated it can be.
As the sun began to set I was reminded of the way people crave fire. In dimming surroundings, the fire is a final bastion of light that gives us knowledge of our surroundings. It warms us. It gives peace of mind and a sense of safety from the unknown.
Once the fire did falter, there was a colder comfort. The sky was well let it in a way that didn't make sense to take a picture of. You had to be there by the dying embers.
